Winning Ways Brings Financial Literacy to Emerge CT: A Five-Week Journey to Financial Empowerment

At Winning Ways Inc., we understand that financial stability is a cornerstone of personal empowerment, especially for those overcoming the challenges of trauma, incarceration, and recovery. That’s why we’re excited to share our long-lasting partnership with our “big brother” organization, Emerge CT, to bring a transformative five-week series on financial literacy to their participants, as part of The Winning Circle Series™.

A Comprehensive Five-Week Program

This series, facilitated by our amazing team members Rose Daley and Robbia Williams, spans five weeks, diving deep into topics that not only focus on practical financial skills but also address the emotional impact of financial trauma. Our participants are on a journey toward financial empowerment, and through this series, we aim to provide the knowledge and tools they need to thrive.

Each week, we build on critical areas of financial literacy, from budgeting and saving to understanding credit and debt management. We also explore the deep-seated issues of financial trauma and how they can affect a person’s long-term financial decisions. By addressing both the practical and psychological aspects of financial wellness, we’re equipping our participants to take charge of their financial futures.

Week 3: Partnering with M&T Bank

One of the highlights of the series was in Week 3, when M&T Bank joins us to provide hands-on guidance and resources. Their expertise adds an invaluable layer of real-world application, helping participants learn about opening and maintaining bank accounts, accessing credit, and making informed financial decisions. We are grateful for their ongoing support and dedication to helping our participants achieve financial success.

Week 5: A Visit from State Treasurer Erick Russell

We are especially honored to announce that our series will conclude with a special visit from Connecticut’s State Treasurer, Erick Russell, in Week 5. His presence reinforces the importance of financial empowerment and provides our participants with the opportunity to engage directly with a state leader who is deeply invested in the financial well-being of all Connecticut residents. We’re excited for the participants to hear his insights and encouragement as they prepare to apply what they’ve learned throughout the program.

Why Financial Literacy Is Critical

For the individuals we serve, financial literacy is more than just a skill set—it’s a pathway to reclaiming control over their lives. Many have faced years of financial instability, whether due to incarceration, systemic barriers, or personal challenges. By giving them the tools to understand personal finance, create budgets, and make long-term plans, we’re helping them to break free from cycles of financial dependency and uncertainty.

Building a Stronger Community Through Partnership

This program would not be possible without the generous support of our partners. We extend a heartfelt thank you to Emerge CT for providing the space and opportunity to bring our financial literacy curriculum to their participants. Our work together highlights the power of collaboration in creating a strong network of support for individuals re-entering the community.

We’re also incredibly grateful to M&T Bank for their contributions in Week 3, and we look forward to welcoming State Treasurer Erick Russell in Week 5 to inspire our participants as they complete this vital journey.

Looking Forward

At Winning Ways, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to “Win,” and this financial literacy series is one of many ways we’re empowering individuals to do just that. We are excited to see the lasting impact this program will have on our participants and look forward to continuing to offer resources that help them build brighter futures.

Stay tuned for more updates on this and other initiatives as we continue to make a difference in communities across Connecticut. With the right support, everyone can succeed—and we’re here to help them do it.
